Would you like to learn about keeping honeybees?

Beekeeping can be easy and pleasurable in your own back garden! Also get to know the medicinal benefits of your beehive, nature’s treasure box of best-kept secrets.

Course outline:
*  The bee hive.
*  Tools, equipment, and apparel.
*  The honeybee life cycle.
*  A beekeeper's calendar.
*  Honeybee nutrition and feeds.
*  Identifying diseases, pests and predators.
*  Chemical treatments and medicines.
*  Organic methods of pest and disease control; understand why                                                          you should seriously consider this option.
*  Harvesting honey, pollen, propolis and royal jelly.
*  Tips for locating your bees.
*  Hands-on in the bee yard; learn to inspect bees and handle bees correctly.
*  Pick up our hive inspection sheet; it will help you throughout the calendar year.
*    Demonstrations will be made using standard and new ergonomic beehives; both will suit urban / back garden beekeepers.

2010 Sustainable Living Symposium

The 2010 Sustainable Living Symposium will be held at Loyalist Collage in Belleville, Ontario, and will include workshops and a tradeshow (on March 20th), and a Green Homes Bus Tours (on March 21).

Saturday will Feature a Full Day of Speakers and Exhibits on Sustainable Living including at least 25 local experts participating in interactive sessions, and over 50 local businesses, organizations and products in an exhibitor area.

This show is a great example of a local community pooling its eco talent and resources to stage a sustainable living event that offers local solutions.

Live Earth Report - Live Earth was a truly monumental music event that brought together a global audience on July 7, 2007 to combat the climate crisis. A historic event, Live Earth's 24 hours of music across 7 continents delivered a worldwide call to action and the solutions necessary to answer that call. Live Earth launched a multi-year campaign to drive individuals, corporations and governments to take action to solve the climate crisis.
